I had researched various external hard drives, most came in plastic cases, the Western Digital case is metal with protective rubber end caps, some people have stated that the drive was slow to write to,I have not found this to be the case, its literally plug and play and just comes up as another drive on my computer, it runs very quietly, feels well built, turns on and off with your p.c and has a small blue light next to the USB socket which indicates both power and activity.
