Straight out of the box the WD drive has a good solid feel and the rubber ends mean no scratches on it or the surface on which it stands. The included 0.5m USB cable is long enough for my set up and interface with the Macbook was a breeze.
No reformatting was required as the drive was recognised straight away and I dumped approx 160GB of data onto it minutes (can't remember how long to be more specific - sorry). The drive is virtually silent and the power supply doesn't have that annoying hum or buzz which is sometimes loud enough to keep you awake at night (compare this with some Logitech power supplies). The unit also has no bright lights while operating which also suits me.
It comes with some preloaded backup software of some sort but I'm not into that sort of thing so simply deleted it, freeing up a modicum of space.
Overall, for the money, it is brilliant and I would highly recommend one if you're looking for a slimline 1TB backup device.Get more detail about Western Digital Elements 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive - Black.
