I bought the Western Digital Elements 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive due to the failure of a number of internal drives.
It has rubberised ends and when layed flat, it stands proud of the the suface it is laid on and thus allows air circulation. I feel safe it can't be knocked over, which cost me 5ooGb of movies in an earlier drive.
It runs quietly and I have no problems with retrieval from the drive which now almost full.
