This unit works well at a good price with only a couple of niggling points;
Not sure if this is a problem with my PC or due to the unit, but if I plug it into the PC's USB socket with the unit already running, sometimes it cause the PC to instantly shut down. Plug it in BEFORE powering it up and it's fine.
Call me pedantic if you will, but the PSU has a built in plug and the output lead comes off the top. Every UK mains plug I've seen is bottom entry so I have my row of undershelf sockets set high, therefore there's no room for the output lead from this PSU.
Others have pointed out PSU failures, but so far so good on this one. It uses 12VDC which is commonly available.
Not able to advise on read/write speeds as I'm not sure where the bottleneck is but transferring 1.3Gb from an SD card to this unit took 4 mins. Transfer back not yet tried. Get more detail about Western Digital Elements 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive - Black.
