The first thing that strikes you about this drive is its strange appearance. It's just plan odd. A slab of plain, heavy black plastic, grilled at the front and with two rubber (removable) end caps which presumably act as shock absorbers - I say presumably; they have certainly not been designed with style in mind.
However if you can get over the surprise of its appearance this drive will deliver the goods. My main concern was the slight question mark over Mac compatibility. If you are a Mac user, rest assured it works fine. But so unsure was I of this to start with that it actually ended back in the box ready to be sent back grumpily to Amazon. It's thanks to the user forums on Amazon that I rescued it from hard drive Siberia and got it working again. So just to confirm, if you're using it with a Mac, you HAVE to create at least one partition with Disk Utility first - you could just create one massive partition, hundreds of partitions or, like me, two - one for Time Capsule and one as a workaday hard drive.
The capacity of this drive is basically enormous so the world is your oyster. I find it very quiet in operation and the speed I have no problem with at all. I rip VHS recordings direct to it and it handles them without issue.
