I don't trust external hard drives. Nobody should. I've had five up to now, and one (a Freecom) let me down badly, and another played up until I did a full format, which seemed to cure it. So I've bought two drives this time, this one, and one of another make, and I'll duplicate all my backed up data. I might even buy another one, that's how paranoid I am.
As for this one: it's a lot smaller than I thought, and very quiet. It ran hot during the recent heatwave, now it's running very cool. Surprisingly, there's no LED on the front to show disk activity. (It's on the back, where you can't see it.) I'm using it with Windows XP, and it plugged and played. I converted it to NTFS, which took about 5 minutes.Get more detail about Western Digital Elements 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive - Black.
